Great video - thanks for sharing. For what its worth my thoughts are that Google appears to favour domain names that exactly match the term being searched. For that reason I think choice of domain name is vitally important, and while there is nothing wrong with the name you have chosen, you would do a lot better - and save on PPC - with domains that exactly match the search terms people are searching on.

Thanks, Pete! I'm pretty confident that taking the user's perspective on things will make a difference. I have to really make sure that my site adds value for the user and currently, I don't think I do that very well. I'm basically hurding people through to merchants (or trying to) without making sure that my merchants' deals are the best out there. I have a feeling my users aren't stupid....

I'm a noob too! I'm floundering my way into AM at the moment and asking myself all the questions no doubt you're asking. The difference, perhaps, is that I've actually been doing SEO and PPC for other companies for about 6 years! Now I want to make money for me and not other people so this aspect of things is very new to me.

I'd tend to agree with you on the doubling earnings call, the only challenge I'd put forth is that I am confident that my PPC driven aff site will start to pick up once the weather gets better and I'm hoping that the backlog of cookies on user's machines will see me well in March. But that could be a fantasy!

As to your question about buying bar stools online...if I were to go off my stats as a guide, I'd say no, they don't :-)

I just have a gut feeling that they do though and, as you pointed out, most offline bar stool shops only have a limited stock and there's not that many of them out there to begin with so I hold out good hope for this site, despite it's weak start out fo the gates.

Absolutely agree Darren! In fact, with my PPC driven site (which is actually now starting to rank in organic SERPs), the most important factor for me has been the building of links. In most cases they've simply been reciprocal links on very related niches. I've jumped up a page or two in about 3 months worth of work to position #7 now. I've been setting myself a target to build 1 link per night on a very related site. If I manage to get the link, either on a blog or forum or hobby site, I finish the night happy. The links seem to take about 4 weeks to filter through to the SERPs but it is definitely working for me.

Hi Bob,

I actually got that information only yesterday from the A4u forums. I have a classic amazon associates account and I was asking the guys over at the A4U forums how much they pay. If you know different, I'd be glad to hear it so I don't get way too excited about my potential amazon earnings!

I use AIOSEO (All In One SEO) for my wordpress sites which works well for me.

Good SEO is not all about on page factors and plugins though, depending on your niche off page SEO can be more important especially if you are working in a competitive area.

Nice post, I like the detail, very good for us newbies to read stuff like this to give up an idea of what is possible.

From my experiences in AM I am now a pessimist so I'd say you were aiming too high to double your income for next month but don't listen to me!

Do people actually buy barstools online? I suppose they do as I wouldn't know where to buy one offline.

A very true article, and something so simple that us web people (designers/developers/affiliates) get so wrong so often. It's about users and core actions of your users. It doesn't make a shade of difference if your boss, friend, dad or dog like it if it's not targetted at them.

It's something clients are guilty of to in a traditional client relationship all to often. They believe all to often their users like what they like and act like they do. It's seldom true.

Focusing on your users will certainly help you. SEO and site optimising will only get people to your products, it won't make them buy them.
